What is the campus weather like at Purdue compared with San Diego for students who care about climate?

The day-to-day climate difference is huge. Purdue gives you a full four-season Midwest experience with cold winters, regular wind, gray stretches, rain, and occasional snow, while a San Diego campus is much more stable and mild across the school year. If predictability matters a lot to you, San Diego is the easier place to live weather-wise because temperatures usually stay comfortable and extreme swings are uncommon.

At Purdue in West Lafayette, fall can start pleasant but turns chilly fast, and by late fall and winter many students are walking to class in coats, boots, and layers. Wind is a real factor there because the campus can feel exposed, and cold rain can make it feel harsher than the temperature suggests. Spring is mixed: some beautiful days, but also muddy, damp, windy, and changeable weather where one week can feel very different from the next.

A San Diego school will usually feel much more consistent. During the academic year, you can expect lots of dry, sunny days, cool mornings, and mild afternoons rather than intense cold or heat. Rain happens far less often than in Indiana, and students usually do not have to plan daily life around snow, icy sidewalks, or heavy winter gear.

The tradeoff is that San Diego can feel almost too uniform if you like seasons. Some students also notice cool cloudy mornings, especially near the coast, and occasional hotter inland days, but those shifts are still much gentler than what Purdue students deal with.
