Is the University of Michigan better than the National University of Singapore for engineering?

For engineering, the University of Michigan is usually the stronger pick for undergraduate experience, while the National University of Singapore is outstanding but tends to stand out more for its position in Asia and its lower cost for some students. Michigan’s College of Engineering has a very broad set of departments, a long-established U.S. recruiting pipeline, and a particularly strong hands-on campus culture built around design teams, research labs, and large-scale project opportunities. NUS has an excellent global reputation, but if the question is which school is more widely seen as the heavier-weight name in engineering circles, especially in the U.S., Michigan gets that edge.

One major differentiator is employer access and alumni reach. Michigan engineering students benefit from a huge alumni network and deep recruiting ties with major American employers in automotive, aerospace, software, robotics, manufacturing, and consulting. That matters a lot at the undergraduate level because internships, co-ops, and early-career placement often shape the value of the degree as much as classroom quality.

If you expect to work in Singapore or elsewhere in Asia, NUS carries exceptional weight and can be just as compelling, but on overall engineering reputation plus undergraduate experience, Michigan is the one most students would view as the stronger option.
