Is UMass Amherst or the University of Miami better for marketing?

I'm trying to decide between UMass Amherst and the University of Miami, and marketing is the main major I'm considering. Both schools seem like good options, but I’m having trouble comparing them for business and internship opportunities.

I want to know which one is generally the better choice for a student who wants to study marketing and build a career in that field.

For marketing, the University of Miami often has the edge for students who want a more polished private-school business environment, smaller classes, and access to a major metro area with strong ties to hospitality, luxury, sports, entertainment, and international business. If you can comfortably afford it, UM is a very appealing option for a student who wants close access to employers and a campus culture that feels professionally connected.

UMass Amherst makes a lot of sense for a student who wants a strong, well-known public business school experience at a lower cost. Isenberg has a solid reputation in business, a large alumni network, and good recruiting strength in the Northeast. For a marketing student who is proactive about joining clubs, networking, and pursuing internships in Boston or other regional hubs, UMass can absolutely lead to strong outcomes.

The biggest practical difference is probably not classroom quality so much as setting and access. A student who thrives by building relationships with professors, using a smaller private-school network, and tapping into Miami-area industries may find Miami easier to turn into internships and brand-facing experience. A student who is cost-conscious, comfortable at a larger public university, and motivated enough to create their own opportunities may get better overall value from UMass.

I’d lean toward Miami for the student who wants marketing tied to consumer brands, tourism, sports, or international-facing business in a city setting. I’d lean toward UMass Amherst for the student who wants a respected business school name, broader public-university value, and flexibility to build a marketing path without paying private-school prices.
