Does every applicant to Dartmouth get offered an interview?

I'm applying to Dartmouth this fall and I've heard mixed things about their interview process. Some of my friends got invited for interviews last year, but others didn't hear anything at all. I really want to know if everyone who applies gets offered an interview, or if it's only some people.

I'm kind of stressed because I think my interviewer would really like me if I got the chance, but now I'm worrying it might not even be an option. If you didn't get an interview, does it hurt your chances? Also, do they only offer them in certain areas?

Just curious about how it all works and if anyone knows what I should expect.

Not every applicant to Dartmouth is guaranteed an interview. Dartmouth uses alumni interviewers, and whether you get an interview offer mostly depends on the availability of volunteers where you live. In areas with a lot of Dartmouth alumni, it's more likely you'll be contacted; in regions with fewer alumni, they simply might not have enough people to go around.

If you don’t get offered an interview, it’s not held against you. Dartmouth admissions specifically says on their website that not receiving an interview does not negatively impact your application. They understand it’s out of the applicant’s control.

What usually happens is after you submit your application, you'll get an email if there's an interviewer available in your area. If you don’t hear anything, you haven’t missed a step or done something wrong— it just means there’s no one available. For example, a student living in a smaller town or overseas might not get contacted because there aren’t local alumni.

If you are offered an interview, it’s definitely a good opportunity to share your personality and interests, but it’s just one part of your application. If you aren’t offered one, admissions will still give your application the same level of consideration. So, try not to stress— there’s nothing extra you need to do. Just keep an eye on your email after you submit your app, and if an interview is available, make the most of it.

If you're very eager to interview, you could reach out to Dartmouth admissions after a month if you haven’t been contacted, just to double-check, but usually they’ll let you know if it's possible. Good luck with your application!
