One big differentiator is institutional identity. Colby’s entire model centers on undergraduate liberal arts education, so people in admissions, academia, and graduate education tend to immediately place it in that category alongside other well-known small liberal arts colleges. ASU, by contrast, is recognized more for size, research activity, professional programs, and innovation, which can be an asset, but it does not signal “elite liberal arts college” in the same way.
