Indiana University Bloomington vs Tulane for business: which is the better choice for an undergraduate business major?

I’m deciding between Indiana University Bloomington and Tulane for business, and I’m trying to figure out which one is the stronger choice overall for an undergrad. I care about getting a good business education and having solid opportunities after graduation.

I’m also trying to think about how each school’s reputation might matter for internships and early jobs.

The biggest tradeoff is depth and scale versus smaller size and a different campus experience. Indiana University Bloomington, through the Kelley School of Business, is much more established as an undergraduate business destination, with a larger business ecosystem, more employer recruiting, and a broader alumni network specifically tied to business. Tulane can still lead to strong outcomes, especially in certain regions and industries, but for pure undergraduate business strength, IU has the clearer edge.

Kelley is one of the few business schools that is especially well known at the undergraduate level, and that matters for internships and first jobs. Employers who hire a lot of business undergrads tend to know Kelley well, and IU’s size creates more structured recruiting pipelines, more specialization options, and a bigger peer network in finance, marketing, consulting, accounting, and management. If your goal is maximizing business-specific opportunities on campus, IU is hard to beat.

Tulane’s business school is respectable, and the school has a strong brand in some circles, but its reputation is not as centered on undergraduate business in the same way Kelley’s is. Tulane may be especially appealing if you value a smaller private-school environment, New Orleans, and a somewhat more intimate campus feel.

For internships and early jobs, school reputation matters most when it is paired with active recruiting channels and alumni volume. That is where IU stands out. Kelley’s alumni presence in business roles is extensive, and that tends to help with both formal recruiting and informal networking.

Between the two, IU Bloomington is the stronger choice for an undergraduate business major unless Tulane is offering a meaningfully better financial package or you strongly prefer its size, setting, and culture.
