Which has better school spirit, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign or Indiana University Bloomington?

Indiana University Bloomington usually has the stronger day-to-day school spirit. The campus has a very visible, social Big Ten culture centered around basketball, a lively game-day atmosphere, and a student body that tends to rally around IU identity in a way that feels especially campus-wide.

Basketball is the biggest differentiator. At Indiana, men’s basketball is deeply woven into the school’s identity, and that creates a level of tradition and emotional investment that shows up well beyond just people attending games. Even students who are not huge sports fans often know the rituals, wear IU gear, and follow the team.

UIUC absolutely has pride and strong attendance, especially in basketball and for major football games, but the energy can feel a bit more spread out. Illinois is a larger, more academically and engineering-focused campus, so school pride is very real there, just not always as socially concentrated in the same way. You are more likely to find students strongly attached to their college, major, or friend group alongside their Illini identity.
