Does Dartmouth offer interviews for applicants?

I'm applying to Dartmouth this fall and I wanted to know if interviews are a part of their admissions process. I read conflicting info online—some places say interviews are available with alumni, others say they're not required, and a few people said they didn't get offered one at all.

I'm not sure if I should reach out or just wait. For anyone who applied recently, did you get an interview, and if so, how did it work? Would not having an interview hurt my chances? I'm kind of nervous about missing something important!

Dartmouth does offer interviews, but they're not a required part of the application process and not every applicant will be offered one. Interviews are typically conducted by Dartmouth alumni, and after you submit your application, your information is sent to local alumni volunteers. If there’s someone available in your area, you might get an email inviting you to interview. If there isn’t an interviewer in your region or you just don’t get contacted, it won’t be held against you.

Not having an interview will not hurt your chances of admission; Dartmouth is very clear that interviews are optional and availability depends largely on the alumni network’s capacity. In fact, many applicants every year are not offered interviews, especially if they live in areas with fewer alumni.

If you are offered an interview, it’s a great opportunity to share your story, show your interest, and learn more about Dartmouth from someone who attended. The interview is more like a conversation than a formal evaluation and gives you the chance to ask questions as well. For example, a student last cycle received an email from an alum about a week after submitting their application, scheduled a virtual meeting, and just chatted about their experiences—no need to stress if you weren’t contacted.

If you want to be proactive, you can check Dartmouth’s website for specifics, but generally, you should wait for them to reach out after you apply. Double-check your email (including spam/junk folders) during the weeks after submission. If you don’t get an interview, rest assured your application will still receive full consideration. Good luck with your application!
