Which is better for engineering value: UIUC or CU Boulder?

CU Boulder fits the student who wants a solid engineering education in a place with a distinctive lifestyle and strong ties to Colorado’s tech, aerospace, and national lab ecosystem. For aerospace in particular, Boulder has real appeal, and students who want access to that regional industry can do very well there.

If both schools cost about the same, UIUC is usually the harder degree to beat on return because of its broader engineering prestige and reach with employers. If Boulder is meaningfully cheaper, the comparison gets much closer, because engineering outcomes from CU Boulder are still strong enough that lower debt can outweigh a reputation gap.
