Which is better for computer engineering: University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign or Purdue?

UIUC has the edge for computer engineering. Its computer engineering program benefits from one of the strongest reputations in the country across both electrical engineering and computer science, which matters because CE sits right at that intersection. In practice, that often translates into broader recognition from employers and especially strong depth in systems, hardware, architecture, and embedded computing.

One concrete difference is how much CE at UIUC is supported by the surrounding CS and ECE ecosystem. Students usually have access to a very deep bench of upper-level technical coursework, research labs, and faculty across chips, operating systems, computer architecture, AI hardware, networking, and robotics. That makes it especially attractive if you want flexibility to lean more hardware-heavy or more software-heavy within CE.

For internships and jobs, both schools place well, but UIUC tends to draw especially intense recruiting from major tech companies, semiconductor firms, and high-end engineering employers.
