For a psych major, those day-to-day academic opportunities matter a lot because psychology gets stronger when you can pair coursework with labs, faculty mentorship, and off-campus experience. Chapman also tends to feel more connected to the surrounding city, whereas Pepperdine’s Malibu campus can feel more insulated.

If your goal is a psychology path that may lead to grad school, Chapman has a slight edge in the way many students think about preparation. Its psychology offerings are well established, and the university’s location near hospitals, community organizations, and internship sites can make it easier to build practical experience during the school year. That matters if you want exposure to counseling, child development, behavioral research, or nonprofit work before applying to master’s or doctoral programs.

Pepperdine is still a very real contender, especially if you value small classes, close faculty attention, and a campus culture shaped by Christian identity.
