Which is better for internships, Clemson or American University?

American University is the stronger option for internships. Its location in Washington, DC gives students direct access to federal agencies, nonprofits, advocacy groups, media organizations, and policy-focused employers during the school year, which makes part-time internships much more realistic. American also builds a lot of its academic culture around internships, especially in politics, international affairs, communications, and public policy.

That school-year access is the biggest difference. At American, students can often intern while taking classes because employers are nearby and the university is used to students balancing both. Clemson students can absolutely get strong internships too, but those are more often summer-based or require traveling to larger metro areas, depending on the field.

The second differentiator is employer network. American’s connections are especially deep in DC-centered industries, and many professors, alumni, and campus offices have ties to organizations that regularly take interns. If your interests include government, journalism, law, international relations, business with a policy angle, or nonprofit work, that network can matter a lot.
