University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign vs Bucknell for engineering: which is better?

The biggest practical tradeoff is scale versus intimacy. UIUC offers a much larger, more research-heavy engineering environment with broader name recognition in engineering, deeper course selection, and stronger recruiting volume, while Bucknell gives you a smaller undergraduate-focused setting with more direct access to professors and a tighter campus community.

For engineering strength overall, UIUC is the clearer choice. Its College of Engineering is widely regarded as one of the top public engineering schools in the country, and that matters in a few concrete ways: more specialized majors and electives, larger research infrastructure, more engineering employers recruiting on campus, and a much bigger alumni network in technical fields. If future opportunities are your top priority, those advantages are hard to ignore.

Bucknell is a respected school and can be a very good place to study engineering, especially if you want smaller classes and an environment where undergraduates get a lot of attention.
