Which is better for finance careers: Auburn or Notre Dame?
I’m trying to choose between Auburn and Notre Dame and I’m interested in finance after college. Both schools seem like good options, but I’m not sure which one has a stronger reputation for helping students break into finance jobs.
I’m mostly looking for a general comparison of how each school is viewed by employers in finance and which one tends to open more doors for internships and full-time recruiting.

The biggest practical tradeoff is brand reach and recruiting depth versus cost and regional value. For finance careers, Notre Dame usually opens more doors nationally, especially for competitive internships and first jobs in investment banking, asset management, and other high-selectivity finance tracks. Auburn can still lead to strong outcomes, but its finance recruiting tends to be more regional and more dependent on your own networking, grades, and hustle.
Notre Dame has a notably stronger reputation with finance employers, and that matters most when firms are deciding where to spend recruiting time. Its alumni network is especially influential in finance, and the school has a visible presence in major markets like Chicago and New York. In practice, that means more structured access to internships, more on-campus interest from finance employers, and a smoother path into high-demand roles.
Auburn is respected, particularly in the Southeast, and it can work well for corporate finance, commercial banking, wealth management, and finance roles tied to regional employers. Students there can absolutely build good careers, but the path is less plug-and-play for elite finance recruiting. You are more likely to need to create opportunities rather than step into an existing recruiting pipeline.
If your goal is broad access to finance recruiting and the strongest employer recognition in the field, Notre Dame is the clearer choice. Auburn becomes more compelling if cost is dramatically lower and you would be happy building a career primarily through Southern or regional networks rather than relying on national campus recruiting.
