Alabama vs Wake Forest for pre-med: which is better for undergraduate preparation?

Wake Forest is the stronger pre-med setup for most students. Its smaller undergraduate environment, close connection to Wake Forest School of Medicine and Atrium Health, and advising structure tend to make it easier to build the kind of academic and clinical profile medical schools want.

One big differentiator is access and scale. Wake has a much smaller student body, so getting to know professors, securing recommendation letters, and finding research or shadowing opportunities is often more straightforward than at Alabama, where you may need to be more proactive in a much larger system. For pre-med, that day-to-day accessibility matters a lot.

Another advantage is clinical proximity. Wake Forest undergrads benefit from being tied into a medical ecosystem that includes a major academic medical center and health network. That can translate into more natural pipelines for hospital volunteering, physician shadowing, clinical research, and exposure to medical specialties, all of which are central to building a strong med school application.
