Fordham vs Santa Clara value for money for undergrad
I’m trying to decide between Fordham and Santa Clara as a future undergrad, and I keep hearing different opinions about which one is the better value for the money.
I’m mostly interested in how people think about cost versus the overall payoff from the degree, including reputation, networking, and career outcomes.

The biggest practical tradeoff is geography and the kind of network you are buying: Fordham gives you direct access to New York internships and a very broad East Coast alumni base, while Santa Clara places you in Silicon Valley with unusually strong proximity to tech and business employers. For value, that difference matters more than small reputation debates because undergrad payoff often comes from internships during the school year, alumni density in your target city, and how easy it is to convert college connections into a first job.
Fordham tends to make the most financial sense for students who want finance, media, consulting, communications, nonprofit work, or New York based careers. Its location is a real asset, especially if you are the kind of student who will actively use the city for internships before senior year. The Fordham name is well known in the Northeast, and its business school has solid recognition, but the value equation depends heavily on whether you actually want to build your early career in or near NYC.
Santa Clara often looks stronger on value if you are interested in tech, entrepreneurship, product, accounting, or business roles tied to Silicon Valley. It has a respected business program, strong regional employer connections, and a network that can be especially useful in the Bay Area. Santa Clara’s reputation can be more regionally concentrated than Fordham’s, but in Northern California that concentration is often a feature, not a weakness.
If cost is close, I would weigh career location first: New York points toward Fordham, Bay Area and tech-adjacent paths point toward Santa Clara. If one school is significantly cheaper, that usually outweighs modest differences in prestige because neither school is so far ahead of the other that it justifies taking on a lot of extra debt.
