Which is better for internships, UCLA or MIT?
I’m trying to decide between UCLA and MIT and one of the biggest factors for me is internship opportunities. I want a school that makes it realistic to find strong internships during the school year or summer and build a good resume.
I’m not just looking at prestige. I’m mainly wondering which school tends to give students better access to internships and recruiting opportunities.

For internships, MIT usually offers the more concentrated pipeline, especially if you want engineering, CS, quantitative research, robotics, biotech, or finance roles that recruit very intentionally from a short list of schools.
UCLA also creates excellent internship opportunities, but the experience is a bit more self-directed and broader. Being in Los Angeles is a real advantage for entertainment, media, health, startups, aerospace, public interest work, and some tech, and UCLA’s size means there are a huge number of student organizations, industry connections, and alumni pathways. For a student who is proactive and likes exploring across industries, UCLA can be extremely strong.
MIT fits the student who wants a campus culture where internships are tightly woven into academics and recruiting. If you like the idea of being surrounded by peers who are constantly applying for technical roles, joining research groups early, and turning projects into internship leads, MIT tends to make that process feel more direct.
UCLA fits the student who wants access to a massive city economy and is comfortable building opportunities through networking, clubs, professors, and off-campus hustle. That can be powerful if your interests are less narrowly technical or if you want flexibility across fields like film, business-adjacent roles, health, policy, or design. During the school year, though, commuting and the scale of the school can make opportunity feel less centralized than at MIT.
So if your priority is the strongest and most streamlined internship access for technical careers, MIT has the edge. If you want a wider industry mix and are excited by LA as an internship market, UCLA can absolutely deliver, but it usually rewards initiative more heavily.
