Lehigh vs Georgetown for finance careers: which is better for recruiting and alumni network?

I’m trying to decide between Lehigh and Georgetown and I want to focus on finance after college. Both seem like good schools, but I’m not sure which one gives a bigger advantage for recruiting into investment banking, private equity, or other finance jobs.

I’m mostly trying to understand how each school is viewed by employers and how strong the alumni network is in finance.

Georgetown has the clearer edge for finance recruiting and alumni reach, especially for investment banking, buy-side roles, and jobs that depend heavily on East Coast networks. Its location in Washington, DC, broader national name recognition, and the strength of the McDonough School of Business give it more consistent visibility with major employers than Lehigh.

One major differentiator is employer access. Georgetown students benefit from a large pipeline into banks, consulting firms, asset managers, and policy-adjacent finance roles, and firms already know how to recruit there at scale. Even for New York roles, Georgetown tends to carry more weight nationally, while Lehigh is better known in certain regional and alumni-heavy circles rather than across the full finance market.

Another difference is the alumni network’s reach and concentration. Georgetown’s alumni base is especially strong in finance, government, and business leadership, which matters because finance recruiting often runs through informal connections as much as formal applications. Lehigh absolutely has loyal alumni, and that can be powerful, particularly in the Northeast, but Georgetown’s network is broader and more likely to open doors across cities, firms, and industries.

Lehigh is still a legitimate path into finance, and for a driven student who networks hard, joins the right clubs, and targets recruiting early, it can work well. But if the question is which school gives a bigger built-in advantage for high-finance recruiting and long-term network value, Georgetown offers more from day one.
