For raw internship volume and variety, UC San Diego usually has the edge because San Diego has dense opportunities in biotech, healthcare, engineering, tech, and research. Chapman can be very effective too, but its internship access tends to depend more on your major and how intentionally you build connections in Orange County and Los Angeles.

At UC San Diego, one of the clearest advantages is the surrounding industry. Students can tap into nearby research institutes, hospitals, startups, and established science and tech companies, and the university itself has a strong research presence that can lead to lab roles and project-based experience that functions a lot like an internship. If you want a more intimate campus and your interests line up with Chapman’s better-connected areas, Chapman can absolutely work well, but UC San Diego is the safer bet for internship access overall.
