Should I choose the University of Alabama or Florida State for law school prep?

Florida State has the edge for law school prep. Its location in Tallahassee puts undergraduates next to the state capital, courts, agencies, and lobbying groups, which creates unusually direct access to internships and policy work that translate well to legal experience.

That Tallahassee setting matters more than people sometimes realize. If you want exposure to legislation, government, public policy, administrative law, or political advocacy, FSU students can build a resume with semester-long experiences during the school year, not just summer internships. For a future law school applicant, that kind of sustained involvement is often more useful than a school simply having a good general reputation.

FSU also benefits from overlap with legal and political institutions in a way Alabama does not quite match. Students interested in constitutional law, criminal justice, public interest law, or government-facing legal careers are in a strong ecosystem for classes, speakers, networking, and campus organizations tied to those fields.

Alabama is still a solid option, especially if it would be significantly cheaper or offer you a more comfortable academic environment. It has strong academics, respected honors opportunities, and can absolutely lead to law school if you earn high grades, write well, and build relationships with professors. But for law school prep specifically, FSU offers a more naturally connected path because of its capital-city opportunities and closer day-to-day exposure to the legal world.
