Arizona State vs Northwestern for marketing: which is better for undergraduate career opportunities?

I’m trying to decide between Arizona State and Northwestern and I’m interested in studying marketing. Both seem like strong options, but I keep getting different opinions about which one would give me better career opportunities after graduation.

I mainly want to understand how the two schools compare for marketing in terms of recruiting, internships, and overall reputation with employers.

For undergraduate career opportunities in marketing, Northwestern usually opens more doors nationally, especially for competitive internships, brand management roles, consulting-adjacent marketing jobs, and employer recognition across major cities. Arizona State can still lead to strong outcomes, especially if you are proactive, but it tends to rely more on student hustle and regional network-building rather than the school name doing as much work for you.

Northwestern fits the student who wants a campus with deep connections to major employers and is aiming for high-visibility internships early. Even though Kellogg is the graduate business school, undergrads still benefit from the university’s overall business reputation, strong alumni network, and proximity to Chicago, which matters a lot for internships during the school year.

ASU makes sense for the student who wants a big, energetic public university with lots of opportunities and is comfortable creating momentum independently. The W. P. Carey School of Business is well respected, especially in the Southwest, and ASU has a large alumni base, strong career services infrastructure, and plenty of local and regional internship options.

If your main question is pure undergraduate career leverage in marketing, Northwestern has the stronger edge in recruiting power, internship access, and employer reputation. ASU is a solid option and can work very well for students who are entrepreneurial, cost-conscious, or planning to build a career in the West, but Northwestern is the one more likely to expand your options right out of college.
