Which is better for city life: Case Western Reserve University or NYU?

NYU is the clear winner for city life. Its campus is woven directly into Greenwich Village and lower Manhattan, so day to day student life happens in the middle of New York rather than on a more separate campus. You walk out of class into city streets, restaurants, stores, internships, concerts, and public transit almost immediately.

One big difference is how each campus is physically set up. NYU does not have a traditional enclosed campus, which means the city is effectively part of campus life all the time. Case Western has a defined campus in Cleveland’s University Circle, and while that area has great museums, cultural institutions, and some nearby neighborhoods, it still feels more like a campus district than full immersion in a major city.

Transit and spontaneous access also separate them. At NYU, the subway and dense walkability make it easy to reach different neighborhoods quickly, whether that means internships, nightlife, food, or events on a random weekday. At Case Western, students do have access to Cleveland amenities, but getting around is less seamless and the rhythm of daily life is more campus-centered.

The social atmosphere reflects that setup. NYU students often build routines around the city itself, studying in cafes, exploring neighborhoods, attending events, and blending college life with urban life in a very direct way. Case Western students can certainly enjoy Cleveland, especially the arts and medical district around campus, but the student experience usually feels more contained and less intensely urban from morning to night.
