The biggest practical tradeoff is scale versus access. For premed, UC Irvine has a real structural advantage because UCI Health and the medical school create a dense ecosystem for research, shadowing, and health-related student involvement. That matters because the hardest part of premed is often not finding ambition, but finding consistent opportunities close to campus. At a big campus, though, you may need to be more proactive about securing research spots, office hours relationships, and committee-style support.
