University of Washington vs Georgetown for finance careers: which is better for breaking into finance?

I’m trying to figure out which school would be the stronger choice if I want to work in finance after college. I know both schools have good reputations, but I’m mostly wondering which one tends to give students a better path into finance careers.

I’m a high school student looking at college options and want to understand the general difference in career outcomes and recruiting for finance.

For finance specifically, Georgetown usually offers the clearer path, especially for high-finance roles like investment banking, private equity, and certain front-office jobs in New York. University of Washington can absolutely lead to finance careers too, but the path is more regionally centered and often less plugged into the most traditional East Coast recruiting channels.

Georgetown fits the student who wants a school where finance is a very visible, common goal among classmates and where employers are used to hiring from campus for competitive business roles. If you already think you may want investment banking, asset management, or a finance role that depends heavily on brand recognition and alumni outreach, Georgetown is the more established launchpad.

University of Washington makes more sense for a student who wants strong options in the Seattle and West Coast market, or who may be interested in finance connected to tech, corporate finance, fintech, or business roles at major regional employers. Foster has a solid reputation, and motivated students can do very well, but they often need to be more proactive about networking and recruiting, especially for national high-finance roles.

Another practical difference is the surrounding ecosystem. Georgetown students are close to D.C. internships during the school year and are in a network where many people are pursuing highly competitive professional tracks. UW students have access to a strong local economy and major companies, but the finance culture is not quite as concentrated around traditional Wall Street pathways.

So if your question is narrowly about breaking into finance at the highest level and with the strongest built-in recruiting support, Georgetown has the edge. UW is a very good option, especially for students drawn to the West Coast or to finance paths tied to technology and corporate roles, but Georgetown tends to open more doors more directly for classic finance recruiting.
