Which is better for alumni connections: Villanova or Richmond?

I'm trying to decide between Villanova and Richmond and keep hearing that alumni networks can matter a lot after graduation. Both schools seem to have strong reputations, but I’m not sure which one gives students better access to alumni help, mentoring, and job connections.

I’m mostly looking for a school where the alumni network actually feels active and useful for internships and career opportunities.

The biggest practical tradeoff is breadth versus closeness: Villanova tends to offer a larger, more nationally visible alumni base, while Richmond often feels more personal and easier to tap into quickly. Villanova’s alumni presence is especially noticeable in the Northeast, and its business alumni network has a strong reputation for responsiveness. Richmond, on the other hand, is known for a tight-knit community where students often describe alumni as unusually willing to mentor and make introductions.

If your priority is the widest pool of alumni contacts across industries and cities, Villanova probably has the edge. The Villanova name also tends to carry broad recognition, which can help when making cold outreach feel a little warmer.

Richmond is very strong too, but in a slightly different way. Because it is smaller, the network can feel less sprawling and more relationship-driven. Students often benefit from direct access to alumni through the career office, school-sponsored networking, and a campus culture where connections are intentionally cultivated. That can be especially valuable if you want mentoring that feels less transactional and more sustained over time.

For internships and first-job support, both schools do well, but the experience may differ. Villanova may give you more volume and reach. Richmond may give you more hands-on help and a community that feels easier to navigate without getting lost in a huge network.
