What is campus life like at Harvey Mudd compared with Georgetown?

The biggest day-to-day tradeoff is intensity versus variety. Harvey Mudd has a small, tight-knit, STEM-heavy campus culture where a lot of student life happens within the academic community and across the Claremont Colleges, while Georgetown has a larger, more socially varied environment shaped by Washington, D.C., student organizations, and a broader mix of interests. Both schools are collaborative, but that collaboration looks different: at Mudd it often comes from surviving a demanding workload together, and at Georgetown it comes through clubs, politics, service, and social scenes that extend beyond the classroom.

At Harvey Mudd, the vibe is quirky, close, and very intellectually engaged. Students often know each other well, traditions are a big part of campus culture, and humor tends to be nerdy and self-aware. The workload is real, so weekends can include problem sets and lab work, but students also take advantage of the other Claremont campuses for parties, performances, dining halls, and a wider social circle than Mudd alone would offer.

Georgetown feels more outward-facing and less all-consuming academically, even though plenty of students are serious and busy.
