University of Washington is the better big-campus choice. UW has the scale, energy, and day-to-day activity most people mean when they say they want a large campus experience: a major research university setup, and a campus embedded in Seattle with constant movement around it. University of San Diego has a beautiful campus and active student life, but it feels much smaller, more contained, and more residential.

UW is one of the country’s large public flagships, so the campus tends to feel busy in every direction: more academic departments, more large lecture classes, more student organizations, and more people coming and going throughout the day. That usually creates the kind of environment where there is always something happening and it is easy to feel part of a huge university community.
