That matters if you want something practical during the school year without needing to leave campus for a different city.

Virginia Tech’s advantage is the depth of its recruiting ecosystem. Pamplin has a well-known business reputation, a large alumni network, and established employer pipelines that extend beyond one metro area. Its career fairs and alumni presence tend to create strong access not just in Virginia, but also in DC, Charlotte, Atlanta, and other East Coast markets, which can be valuable if you want flexibility across industries or regions.

For finance-related paths specifically, UNC Charlotte benefits from being in a city with major banking presence, so students often have more immediate proximity to employers in that space. That proximity can translate into coffee chats, office visits, and internships that are simply easier to manage logistically. Virginia Tech can still place well in finance and consulting, but the access is more event- and network-driven rather than built into the city around campus.
