Its location gives you access to the broader LA media market, which matters for entertainment, branding, and some communications paths, but Malibu itself is less plugged into day-to-day internship logistics than BU’s urban setting. In practice, BU tends to make it easier to stack multiple internships, student media roles, and networking opportunities while you are still enrolled.

On program strength, BU has the clearer edge. Its communication offerings are broader and more specialized, and the school has long-standing visibility in fields directly tied to communications careers. That usually translates into more student organizations, campus media, alumni reach, and coursework that feels closely tied to industry pipelines.

For job preparation, BU is the safer bet for most communication students because of the scale of its communications school and the consistency of employer access. Pepperdine is not a weak choice, especially for a student who values mentorship and wants Southern California connections, but if the question is which school tends to be stronger specifically for communication, Boston University is the better answer.
