The University of Michigan has the stronger overall STEM reputation. One big difference is breadth at the top end. Michigan has standout visibility across a wider range of STEM fields, with highly regarded engineering departments, major research activity, and a long-established presence in national academic conversations. That broader prestige tends to carry weight with faculty, graduate programs, and employers across the country.
