Arizona or UC Berkeley for computer science: which is the better choice for undergrad CS?

Berkeley sits in the Bay Area, so students benefit from dense recruiting pipelines into Silicon Valley firms, startups, and labs during the school year, not just over the summer. That location advantage matters because it makes networking, part-time internships, tech talks, and alumni connections much easier to turn into real opportunities.

Another difference is the academic environment within CS itself. Berkeley offers a very deep course catalog and a culture where advanced research and high-level technical work are highly visible even to undergrads. If you want to be around ambitious peers building projects, joining top-tier research groups, or aiming for selective software and ML roles, Berkeley creates more of that momentum.

Arizona is still a respectable option, especially if you would graduate with far less debt or want a less intense atmosphere. You can absolutely get internships and a strong CS education there, but you will likely need to be more proactive about building the same level of recruiting access and brand recognition that comes more naturally at Berkeley. For pure undergrad CS outcomes and opportunities, Berkeley has the clearer edge.
