Arizona State’s W. P. Carey School of Business is also well respected, but it is often seen as more accessible, broader in reach, and especially attractive when the price is much lower or when you want a large, flexible program with a wide range of students and pathways.

If you are comparing them purely on business prestige and the likely strength of the undergraduate business signal on your resume, UIUC has the edge. Gies is widely regarded as one of the stronger public undergraduate business schools, and UIUC’s overall academic reputation is very strong. That can help in recruiting, especially for competitive internships and jobs in finance, consulting, accounting, and larger corporate roles.

ASU is not a weak option at all. W. P. Carey has serious scale, strong career infrastructure, and a good reputation with employers, especially in the Southwest and for students who are proactive about internships and networking. The student experience is a little different too. UIUC is more of a classic Big Ten college-town environment with a strong academic culture, while ASU feels more spread out, urban-adjacent, and socially expansive. Some students thrive at ASU because there are so many ways to build opportunities, but that same scale can make it easier to blend in if you are not self-directed.

So if the question is which school is generally considered the better choice for undergraduate business, UIUC is the stronger answer. ASU becomes especially compelling when the cost is significantly better, when you prefer its setting and culture, or when you know you will take full advantage of its size and resources.
