MSU makes more sense for students who are comfortable being proactive in a bigger system. At a place like MSU, motivated students can absolutely find close faculty connections and strong outcomes, but you usually have to seek them out more intentionally.

The key question is not whether Lehigh is "better" in the abstract. It is whether its smaller setting, campus culture, and level of personal attention are worth the price difference in your specific situation. For most families, an expensive private school is only worth stretching for if the additional cost is manageable and the student is very likely to benefit from the particular environment in ways that a strong public option would not replicate.
