Purdue is very well respected, but its reputation is more program-driven than universal in the same way.

One clear difference is how each school is perceived across industries. After graduation, prestige matters most early on and in fields that care heavily about institutional brand. But over time, outcomes depend much more on your major, internships, grades, network, and the kind of work you actually do.

So in pure prestige, Columbia is ahead. In career value, the gap is much smaller than people assume, and in some technical fields Purdue can be just as compelling to employers as a far more famous school.
