The biggest practical tradeoff is that Penn State’s school spirit is louder, more constant, and more centered on big-campus sports culture, while UVA’s pride is real but comes through in a somewhat more balanced, less all-consuming way. At Penn State, football saturates the social atmosphere, white-out traditions are a major part of campus identity, and school gear is everywhere. At UVA, students absolutely care about athletics and tradition, but the vibe is usually a little more selective and less nonstop than at Penn State.
