For campus life alone, UCSB usually feels more socially immersive and weekend-active than Purdue. The campus sits right on the coast next to Isla Vista, so student life spills beyond campus into a dense, walkable college town where beaches, apartments, food spots, and hangouts are all part of the same daily rhythm. Purdue is absolutely social too, but its vibe is more traditional Big Ten college campus than all-encompassing beach town.

One big difference is how students spend their time physically. At UCSB, a lot of social life happens outdoors: beach trips, biking along the lagoon or coast, sunset hangs, casual apartment gatherings in Isla Vista, and events that feel tied to the weather and location. The campus is unusually self-contained in a way that makes it easy to run into people and stay out doing something without much planning.
