Is Arizona State University or UCLA considered more prestigious by employers and graduate schools?

In broad terms, UCLA is viewed as more prestigious by both employers and graduate schools. It has stronger national and international name recognition, a long-established research reputation, and a more selective admissions profile, all of which tend to shape first impressions. If someone is speaking only about overall institutional prestige, UCLA is the one that carries more weight.

That said, ASU is not seen negatively, and in some areas it is genuinely well regarded. ASU has a strong reputation for scale, innovation, entrepreneurship, and certain professional or applied programs, so in specific fields an employer may care much more about your major, internships, research, and skills than the general brand difference. Especially in Arizona and parts of the Southwest, ASU has a large alumni network and solid employer presence.

For graduate schools, UCLA’s reputation usually gives it an advantage at the institutional level because faculty know it as a major research university with high academic visibility.
