Which has better campus life, American University or UNC Chapel Hill?

The biggest practical tradeoff is that UNC Chapel Hill offers a more traditional, high-energy college atmosphere, while American University gives you a more city-connected, politically engaged student experience that can feel less centered on campus itself. UNC has much stronger school spirit, especially around athletics, and students often describe the campus as socially active and community-oriented. American has plenty happening, but the rhythm is more tied to Washington, D.C., internships, and issue-driven student life than to a classic residential campus scene.

For day-to-day campus life, UNC usually feels more cohesive. There is a stronger sense that students rally around the same events, traditions, and identity, and it is typically easier to plug into a visible social scene quickly. If you care about game days, broad student enthusiasm, and a campus where people spend a lot of time together on and around school grounds, UNC has a clear edge.
