Purdue vs George Washington for city life: which college feels more urban day to day?

The biggest practical tradeoff is this: George Washington is woven directly into Washington, DC, while Purdue has a traditional college-campus feel in a small college town. At GW, city life is not an occasional add-on. Students live and study in neighborhoods like Foggy Bottom and use the city around them every day for food, internships, museums, events, and transit. At Purdue, most daily life revolves around campus and West Lafayette, with a more self-contained student environment.

Day to day, GW feels urban in the most literal sense. There is no real bubble separating campus from the city, and that changes how student life works. You walk past office buildings, apartments, restaurants, Metro stops, and tourist areas as part of normal routines, not special trips.

Purdue is urban in a much looser sense. It is a large, active campus with plenty going on, but the surrounding area feels much more like a college town than a city integrated into student life. Students certainly go off campus, but the atmosphere is more centered on campus traditions, student organizations, and the Purdue community itself.

George Washington is the clearer answer if your priority is that city life be a real, constant part of being a student. Purdue can be lively and social, but it does not feel urban in the same day-to-day way GW does.
