Berkeley fits the student who wants nonstop motion around them. There are always student events, protests, performances, clubs, and people out doing things, and weekends can stretch beyond campus into Oakland, San Francisco, concerts, food spots, and internships or events tied to the city. That can make Berkeley feel exciting in a way few campuses do. At the same time, some students think the pressure and pace cut into the fun, because academics, housing stress, and the overall intensity are very real parts of undergraduate life there.

UW fits the student who wants a social college experience without feeling like the campus is running at full speed all the time. Seattle gives you plenty to do on weekends, from neighborhoods, music, and food to outdoor options like hiking and water activities, and UW’s campus itself is one of the prettiest and most comfortable places to spend time. The social life can feel more spread out than Berkeley’s, and it is not always as instantly high-energy, but a lot of students find it more relaxed and sustainable.

If by fun you mean constant activity, strong campus buzz, and easy access to a dense urban scene, Berkeley usually has the edge. If fun to you includes having things to do while still feeling a little more breathable and less intense, UW often wins students over.
