Which is better for pre-med, Villanova or Stony Brook?

For pre-med, Stony Brook has the edge. It offers a deeper built-in science and medical ecosystem, with direct access to a major research university environment, a medical school, a university hospital, and a wider volume of lab and clinical opportunities tied to those resources. Villanova can absolutely get students to medical school, but Stony Brook is usually the more strategically advantageous place if your priority is maximizing exposure to research and medicine during college.

One major differentiator is access to clinical and research experience. Stony Brook students benefit from being connected to Stony Brook University Hospital and the Renaissance School of Medicine, which makes hospital volunteering, shadowing, clinical programs, and faculty-led research more naturally embedded into campus life.

Another difference is academic scale in the sciences. Stony Brook has especially strong departments in biology, chemistry, biochemistry, and related STEM fields, and that often translates into more course variety, more labs, and more faculty doing high-level biomedical research. Villanova’s smaller environment can feel more personal, and some students prefer that advising style, but Stony Brook tends to provide a broader pipeline into serious research earlier.
