Arizona or Boston College for finance: which school is better for breaking into banking and finance jobs?
I’m a high school senior deciding between Arizona and Boston College, and I’m interested in finance. I know both schools can lead to good careers, but I’m trying to understand which one has the stronger reputation and recruiting opportunities for finance, especially for students aiming at banking or related jobs.
I want to choose the school that gives me the best overall path into the finance industry.

The biggest practical tradeoff is national finance recruiting versus cost and flexibility. Boston College has the clearer edge for breaking into banking and front-office finance because of its stronger brand on the East Coast, tighter alumni presence in New York and Boston, and more established on-campus pathways into internships that matter early. Arizona can still lead to solid finance outcomes, but it is less of a target for major banks and usually requires more self-driven networking to reach the same kinds of roles.
For banking specifically, Boston College is the more reliable platform. Its Carroll School of Management is well known among finance employers, and BC students benefit from a dense alumni network in investment banking, asset management, private wealth, and related fields. That matters because finance hiring, especially for internships after sophomore and junior year, is heavily relationship-driven.
Arizona has strengths too. Eller is respected, and if you perform very well, join the right finance clubs, and network aggressively, you can absolutely place into good finance jobs. But the recruiting pipeline is not as naturally built toward high-finance roles, especially compared with a school like Boston College where more students are aiming at those jobs and more employers are used to hiring there.
Location also matters. BC is much closer to Boston finance firms and has stronger access to the Northeast corridor, which helps with informational interviews, school-year networking, and alumni outreach. Arizona’s location is more advantageous for students interested in the Southwest, corporate finance, commercial banking, or regional opportunities, though some students do break out nationally.
If your main goal is maximizing your odds for banking or highly selective finance roles, Boston College is the better choice. Arizona becomes more compelling only if the price difference is very large and you are comfortable taking a more independent path to recruiting.
