Is Arizona State University or the University of Washington better for internships?

The University of Washington has the stronger edge for internships overall, especially for tech and many business-related paths. Its Seattle location puts students close to a dense concentration of employers, including major tech companies, startups, consulting firms, healthcare systems, and nonprofits. That matters because in-semester internships are simply more realistic when campus is embedded in a large job market.

For tech specifically, UW benefits from being in one of the most active hiring regions in the country for software, data, product, and engineering roles. Students can network, attend employer events, and interview with companies that regularly recruit nearby. Even outside computer science, Seattle creates spillover opportunities in analytics, operations, marketing, and finance-adjacent roles.

Arizona State University still does well on internships, particularly because of its size, career services, and ties to the Phoenix area’s growing economy. There are solid opportunities in business, supply chain, finance, and some tech-related sectors, and ASU tends to be very proactive about employer engagement. But for overall access, especially if you want frequent in-person networking and a wider range of in-semester options, UW stands out more.
