Ohio State vs. Michigan for business: which is better for undergrads?

For undergraduate business, Michigan usually carries the stronger national reputation, especially through the Ross School of Business. Ross is one of the most visible undergrad business programs in the country, with very strong recruiting, a polished BBA structure, and a lot of name recognition with employers. If your question is mostly about prestige and broad business brand power, Michigan has the edge.

Michigan makes the most sense for a student who wants a highly selective, high-intensity business environment and expects to be surrounded by peers aiming for top finance, consulting, and corporate roles. Ross is especially known for strong action-based learning, a large alumni network, and employers that recruit there very intentionally for undergraduate talent. For some students, that concentrated business identity matters a lot because the path into internships and certain industries can feel more direct.

Ohio State is very appealing for a student who wants a big-school business experience with strong resources but a slightly less pressure-cooker feel. Fisher College of Business is well respected, especially in the Midwest, and Ohio State’s scale creates a huge alumni base, lots of student organizations, and access to major companies. It can be an excellent place for students who are proactive and want solid opportunities without needing the most elite business brand.

Cost should matter a lot in this comparison. The gap in business outcomes is not so large that Michigan automatically makes sense at any price, especially if Ohio State is significantly cheaper for you. For fields like accounting, marketing, operations, supply chain, or many corporate business roles, Ohio State can absolutely get you where you want to go.
