The presence of the School of Medicine matters because it creates more obvious connections to faculty doing health-related research, pre-med advising networks, pipeline programs, and events centered on medicine and public health.

Research access also tends to tilt toward UCR. Because it is a research-intensive UC campus, there are simply more labs across biology, neuroscience, chemistry, public health, and related areas. At a place like Chapman, you may get smaller classes and potentially closer professor relationships, which can help with recommendation letters, but the overall scale of research and medically adjacent opportunities is not as deep.
