American University tends to have the stronger campus-life feel if you want a more traditional, connected day-to-day student experience. Its campus in Tenleytown is more self-contained, students are more likely to live and spend time in the same area, and that usually makes clubs, events, and casual socializing feel easier to stumble into. GW is active too, but its Foggy Bottom setting blends much more into the city, so campus life can feel more decentralized.

One major difference is physical layout. American has a defined campus with quads, residence halls, and student spaces that make it feel like students are part of one shared environment.
