Santa Clara vs. Tulane for internship opportunities

Santa Clara has the clearer edge for internship opportunities during the school year, mainly because of its location in Silicon Valley and the way that proximity shapes recruiting. Being in Santa Clara puts students close to major tech companies, startups, venture-backed firms, and a wide range of business operations, so part-time internships during the academic year are much more realistic.

The location difference is the biggest concrete factor. At Santa Clara, students can often reach employers in San Jose, Palo Alto, Mountain View, Sunnyvale, and San Francisco without needing a major relocation plan, which makes coffee chats, interviews, and in-person networking much easier. Tulane benefits from New Orleans, which has opportunities in hospitality, healthcare, energy, nonprofits, and public service, but the surrounding market is not as dense with large-scale internship pipelines across as many industries during the school year.

The alumni and employer network also plays out differently. Santa Clara has a particularly useful network in tech, finance, accounting, and entrepreneurship on the West Coast, and its Jesuit and business connections are often practical rather than just social. Employers are used to pulling interns from campuses in the Bay Area, and that creates a more routine path into interviews and off-campus experiences. Tulane students absolutely get internships, but more of that process may depend on building connections independently or using summers in other cities, whereas Santa Clara students often have easier access to ongoing local opportunities during the semester.
