Which school has better internship opportunities, Michigan or Ohio State?

The biggest practical tradeoff is reach versus access: Michigan tends to have a stronger national recruiting pull and alumni brand, while Ohio State often offers a very large volume of opportunities and a huge in-state employer network, especially in and around Columbus. For internships specifically, Michigan usually has the edge in prestige-driven recruiting and cross-country placement, while Ohio State is very strong for students who take advantage of its scale, location, and employer ties. Both can get you solid work experience, but they do not operate in exactly the same way.

Michigan benefits from a very visible alumni network and strong employer interest across multiple fields, especially business, engineering, consulting, tech, and finance. Recruiters know the school well, and students often benefit from that recognition when applying beyond the Midwest. Ann Arbor also has a dense campus recruiting culture, so the path from student organizations and career fairs into internships is often pretty direct.

Ohio State has major advantages of its own. OSU’s size also means lots of employer events, a broad alumni base, and strong pipelines in areas like business, engineering, logistics, healthcare, and public sector work.

On the question of how easy it is to find internships through the school, neither place hands them to you automatically. At Ohio State, the sheer number of students can mean you need to be proactive to stand out, but the opportunity volume is real. At Michigan, the recruiting brand may open doors faster, though competition there is also intense because many students are aiming for the same high-profile roles.

If your priority is the strongest overall recruiting reputation and national internship mobility, Michigan comes out ahead. If you value a large nearby job market and a wide range of accessible opportunities during the academic year, Ohio State holds up very well and can be especially practical.
