University of San Diego vs Fordham for finance careers: which has better recruiting and alumni network?
I’m a high school senior trying to decide between the University of San Diego and Fordham, and I want to study finance. I’m mainly looking at which school would give me the better shot at internships, recruiting, and getting into finance jobs after graduation.
I know both are solid schools, but I’m trying to understand how they compare for finance careers in general.

For finance careers, Fordham usually gives you the clearer edge in recruiting access and alumni reach, especially if you want internships during the school year and jobs tied to New York finance. Its Gabelli School of Business has deep connections in NYC, and being in or near Manhattan matters because firms can recruit, host events, and hire students for part-time or semester internships much more easily. The Fordham alumni network is also especially visible in finance, accounting, banking, and related business fields.
Fordham tends to fit the student who wants a more direct pipeline into traditional finance environments such as banking, corporate finance, asset management, and big-city internships. The biggest advantage is not just prestige in the abstract, but proximity: students can build experience earlier, meet alumni more often, and attend employer events without needing summer to do all the work.
USD makes more sense for a student who wants finance with a West Coast orientation, especially in Southern California, and who values a more laid-back campus environment. You can absolutely place into finance from USD, particularly in San Diego, Orange County, Los Angeles, and corporate finance roles, but the recruiting machine is less concentrated and less naturally plugged into the country’s biggest finance hub.
The alumni network at USD is solid and loyal, but it is more regional. Fordham’s network tends to have broader visibility in finance circles and is easier to activate for students targeting East Coast roles. If your main question is which school gives you the stronger built-in platform for internships, recruiting, and finance job access, Fordham is the more finance-focused choice.
USD becomes more compelling if location, campus culture, and a Southern California career path matter enough that you would actually take better advantage of its opportunities. For pure finance recruiting strength, Fordham has the stronger position.
