Is Michigan State or NYU better for business?

I’m trying to decide between Michigan State and NYU for business, and I keep seeing different opinions online. I want to understand which school is generally stronger for business students in terms of reputation and opportunities.

I’m a high school senior narrowing down my college list, so I’m mainly looking for a clear comparison of the two programs.

NYU is the stronger choice for business in terms of overall reputation and access to high-level finance and corporate opportunities. Its undergraduate business program at Stern is one of the most recognizable names in the country, and being in New York City gives students unusually direct exposure to internships, networking, and employers during the school year. Michigan State is respected, but in a head-to-head comparison for business prestige, NYU carries more weight.

One major difference is program visibility. NYU Stern has a national and international brand that is especially strong in finance, consulting, banking, and other competitive business fields. When people talk about top undergraduate business programs, Stern is regularly part of that conversation. Michigan State’s Broad College of Business is solid and well regarded, but it does not have the same level of brand power across the most selective business recruiting pipelines.

Location also matters a lot here. NYU students can intern in Manhattan while classes are in session, which makes it easier to build experience and connections before junior summer recruiting even begins. That kind of proximity is a real advantage for industries where networking and repeated employer contact matter. Michigan State offers strong recruiting and alumni support too, especially in the Midwest, but East Lansing does not provide the same day-to-day access to major firms.

Another differentiator is the type of opportunities each school tends to open. NYU is especially attractive for students aiming at Wall Street, high finance, luxury brands, media business, and global corporate roles. Michigan State has a broader traditional campus experience and a large alumni network, which can be appealing, but for pure business reputation and top-end opportunity density, NYU comes out ahead.
